Wood Packing Restrictions

NEW ZEALAND

Wood Packing Material Not Shipped As Cargo.

Wood or wood products used in supporting, protecting or carrying a commodity (includes dunnage BUT not paper products).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) is not required nor authorized for wood packing material when used as packing. Treatment is not mandatory but shipments arriving in New Zealand without treatment are subject to inspection.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be free from pests that New Zealand has identified as being associated with wood packing material.
- Must not contain or be contaminated with greater than 0.01% by weight with extraneous material (e.g. leaves, soil, etc.)
- Must be bark-free: wood from which all bark excluding vascular cambium, ingrown bark around knots, and bark pockets between rings of annual growth has been removed.

TREATMENT CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
All certifications must be original, free of alterations and erasures, and printed in English. Treatment Certificates must contain the following information:
- A full description of the consignment and wood component
- All relevant identification marks and brands
- The number and/or volume of items treated
- The container number (where applicable)

Additionally, we recommend stating the following on your commercial invoice and bill of lading: All packaging is ISPM15 compliant and is free of bark & dirt.

APPROVED / ISPM15 COMPLIANT PACKAGING:
- cardboard, plastic pallets, plastic containers, plastic crates
- manufactured wood products that have been created using glue, heat and pressure or a combination thereof (examples: plywood, particle board, press-wood, etc.)
- any wood crate, pallet or skid that has the appropriate ISPM15 stamp.

NOT APPROVED:
- all wood packaging that has not been heat treated or fumigated (not ISPM15 compliant).
- all wood packaging that does not have the ISPM15 stamp.
